What it means to be European: new project launched for euroclubs in Ukraine
18-07-2012
A new EU-funded project aiming to provide information, advice, and educational methods to Ukrainian Euroclubs has been launched, according to a press release from the EU Delegation in Ukraine.
The overall approach of this one-year action is based on establishing a sense of community between Ukrainian Euroclubs. This will be achieved by concentrating all major activities around one idea – civil culture or the message, “What it means to be European”. This will promote a vision of becoming Europe instead of just learning about Europe.
The project aims to:
- Facilitate a discussion about the future of Euroclubs, their perspectives and needs as well as exchange of experience between different Euroclubs;
- Raise visibility of the Euroclubs movement at the regional and central levels;
- Develop co-operation between Euroclubs;
- Share and promote experience of the Ukrainian Euroclubs in Ukraine and other ENPI countries.
A series of seminars for leading Euroclubs in different regions of Ukraine will be held to debate plans for the next one or two years, to communicate with the experts of civil society and European integration, to exchange methods of games, quizzes and other approaches in organizing the Euroclubs’ work.
The development of Euroclubs’ capacity will help them to organize a series of events titled "What it means to be European", aimed at educating young people in the spirit of European values. At the same time an essay competition among school and university students on this subject will take place.
In the final phase of the project, the most active of its participants will present their achievements during the annual 2013 celebration of the Europe Day in Kyiv. They will also be involved in public debate in contemporary format and later will discuss the Euroclubs’ future activities.
Ukrainian Euroclubs play an important role in dissemination of European values among Ukrainian society, since they involve schoolchildren and high school students who are practically learning the fundamentals of citizenship, the press release said. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
