Latvia-Russia: Nature therapy for better life

A contract has been signed for an EU-funded cross-border cooperation project aimed at promoting nature therapy as an innovative experimental approach for improving living standards in Latvia-Russia border areas.

The project is co-financed under the ENPI Estonia-Latvia-Russia Cross-Border Cooperation (CBC) Programme. The cross-border social project Nature Therapy for the Improvement of Equal Living Standards in Latvia-Russia Border Areas falls under the Programme’s Priority 3 – promotion of people to people cooperation.

The €198,202 project aims to popularize nature therapy, focusing on children with special needs and social risk groups.

It will promote nature therapy as an innovative approach for rehabilitation of children with special needs and children of large and one-parent families, presenting the main types of nature therapy and emphasizing animal-assisted therapy to social workers and local residents in order to raise their awareness about the ability of nature to stimulate human senses; it will also strengthen and develop seven sustainable local Latvian and Russian communities.

The objective of the Estonia-Latvia-Russia CBC Programme is to promote joint development activities for the improvement of the region’s competitiveness by using its potential at the crossroads between the EU and Russia. Specifically, it aims to make the wider border area an attractive place for both its inhabitants and businesses through activities aimed at improving living standards and investment climate.
