EU-funded Belarus campaign highlights dangers of human trafficking

A campaign to raise awareness among young people of the issues of human trafficking is underway in Belarus, according to a press release from the EU Delegation in Minsk.

The ‘Stop Human Trafficking!’ campaign, which coincides with the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery on 2 December, has run events for students at cinemas in the cities of Brest (2 December), Hrodna (3 December), and Vitsiebsk (6 December), and has further events at Mahiliou (7 December), and Homiel (8 December).

Activities include interactive discussions on the issue of trafficking in human beings, quizzes on basic safety rules when travelling abroad, and the presentation of the film "Inhuman Trafficking", which depicts harrowing stories of young women trapped in sexual exploitation in Europe. The well-known entertainer and radio DJ Max Yugov will present the programme.
 
The campaign is being carried out through the EU/UNDP/UNICEF project ‘Preventing, Fighting and Addressing the Social Consequences of Trafficking in Human Beings in the Republic of Belarus’, in cooperation with the Belarus government. (ENPI Info Centre)
