Environmental protection of international river basins – seminar to be held in Minsk

The EU-funded Environmental protection of international river basins (EPIRB) will on Thursday be organising an international seminar on theme of “UNECE Water and Danube River Protection Conventions and Protocol on Water and Health.” The seminar, due to be held on 18 April in Minsk, will discuss a report that takes stock of the implementation by Partner Countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine)of the UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) Water and Danube River Protection Conventions and proposals for EPIRB support.
Participants of the seminar are expected to endorse a plan of activities to support the fulfillment by Partner Countries of the requirements of UNECE Water Convention and Danube Convention, a press release said.
The EPIRB project aims to improve water quality in the trans-boundary river basins of the wider Black Sea region and Belarus. More specifically, it aims to improve the availability and quality of data on the ecological, chemical, and hydro-morphological status of trans-boundary river basins including groundwater, as well as contributing to the development of River Basin Management Plans for selected river basins and sub-river basins, according to the requirements of the EU’s Water Framework Directive (WFD).
