The People Behind the Projects
The Basic Multilateral Agreement was signed on 8 September 1998, in Baku, Azerbaijan. This document is the most important TRACECA document as it provides the legal basis for the development of economic ties, trade and transport communications in the regions of Europe, the Black Sea, the Caucasus, the Caspian Sea and Asia. Thirteen years down the road, much has been achieved but much remains to be done too. The EU TRACECA programme, which began in 1993, has financed 80 projects to date at a total cost of €168.5 million. More than 40% of the budget has been allocated to the harmonisation of the legal basis, the streamlining of border-crossing procedures and the development of transport infrastructure within the corridor.
