Project targets eco-friendly construction in social housing
22-04-2010
A project targeting eco-friendly construction in the social housing sector has been launched in the framework of the EU-funded Invest In Med programme. The SO’ECO project aims to enable people from Lebanon, Syria, and Tunisia involved in or interested by social housing, to acquire, assimilate and pass sustainable development skills.
A press release from Invest in Med said technical and technological know-how transfer was very much in demand in the Mediterranean. The project would enable them to reach a successful local development by giving people an access to a high quality, affordable and low energy consuming housing, it said.
SO’ECO will see three operations. In the first phase, European experts will establish a diagnosis of the situation; they will then go to the Mediterranean countries to train future local trainers to use new eco-friendly construction techniques, depending on the priorities and the methodology identified during the technical assistance missions.
The final phase will take place at the Batimed event in Marseille next March, which will consolidate the cooperation created earlier during business meetings: European and Mediterranean stakeholders will take stock of the project’s achievements and could also take advantage of the show by getting new contacts and deepening their business relationships.
Invest in Med is a Euro-Mediterranean Network of organizations, funded by the EU with a budget of €9 million, committed to investment promotion and trade facilitation, strengthening SME collaboration and exchange of best-practices. It aims to increase the abilities and efficiency of Mediterranean Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs), thus enabling more foreign direct investment in the Mediterranean Partner Countries. This multi-country platform supports the economic development of the Mediterranean and reinforces cooperation between European and Mediterranean IPAs. (ENPI Info Centre)
