Heritage photos on show at Tunis exhibition

The roving photo exhibition 'Crossing viewpoints – The living heritage in the Mediterranean', organised under the EU-funded Euromed Heritage IV programme, will be shown in Tunis at the National Centre of Living Art from 19 to 30 June, and then in Sfax in September 2012. Its inauguration will take place on June 19 at 6.30pm, in the presence of the Head of the EU Delegation in Tunisia. The objective of the exhibition is to raise people's awareness of their Mediterranean heritage, allowing them to rediscover and protect it.

The result of photographic competitions organised in 2010 and 2011 by the Euromed Heritage programme and the Rehabimed association, the exhibition raises questions about our neighbours, both far and near, about the past and the future, and about the challenges of modern times with their constraints and new opportunities.

The roving exhibition of 30 photographs has been organised by ECUME (Mediterranean Cultural Exchanges) in the cities of Algiers, Batna, Tunis and Sfax. ECUME has brought its experience of more than 30 years in cultural cooperation in the Mediterranean, to coordinate this initiative in which photographers – of all ages and various Mediterranean origins – share a fresh look at people, places and elements that we think we know, and push us to question our approaches…

EuroMed Heritage IV is a €17 million EU-funded programme which contributes to the exchange of experiences on cultural heritage, creates networks and promotes cooperation with the Mediterranean Partner Countries. It focuses on the appropriation by the local populations of their cultural heritage and favours access to education and knowledge of cultural heritage. It supports a framework for the exchange of experiences, channels for the dissemination of best practices and new perspectives aimed at the development of an institutional cultural environment.
