Mediterranean Tourism project launches website
30-05-2012

The New Performances for Mediterranean Tourism (NEWPER) project, funded under the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme in the Mediterranean (ENPI CBCMed), has launched its website featuring news, events and results of the project.
The new website, www.newper.eu, offers regular updates on developments, events and outcomes of the NEWPER project, as well as a series of information and analyses on the evolution of the tourism sector in the Mediterranean area.
NEWPER is funded under the first standard call for a total amount of € 428,993 of which €382,325 as ENPI contribution. Implemented over 18 months, NEWPER addresses the issue of the concentration of touristic flows in time and space especially in Cyprus, Israel and Italy. The project will eventually develop a new governance model of the tourism sector shared by involved actors with a view to diversifying the offer and reducing seasonality.
The first phase of the project is currently being implemented: it focuses on a detailed diagnosis of the concerned regions/cities so to identify the cultural and natural assets to be emphasised as well as the possible gaps in public governance systems including territorial marketing strategies.
NEWPER is coordinated by Promuovi Italia, the executive agency from the Tourism Development and Competiveness Department of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (Italy). Other organisations and local administrations from Italy, Israel and Cyprus also take part in the project.
The ‘ENPI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme 2007/2013’ is a multilateral cross-border cooperation programme co-financed by the EU under the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
