New CBCMed project to improve goods circulation in the Mediterranean
30-05-2012

A new project for improved circulation of goods between the Middle East and the EU ,'CUSTOM MED', funded under the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme in the Mediterranean (ENPI CBCMed) will hold its kick-off meeting on 5 June in Aqaba, Jordan.
CUSTOM MED is the only project of the first standard call approved under Priority 3 of the CBCMed programme “Promotion of better conditions and modalities for ensuring the mobility of persons, goods and capitals”.
The project officially started on 12 April 2012 and will run over a period of 30 months. Its purpose is to increase goods circulation among selected Mediterranean ports (Aqaba, Beirut, Piraeus and Alicante) by developing common customs procedures and increasing the use of Information and Communication Technology. This will contribute to reducing the length of import-clearing processes reinforcing at the same time the competiveness of the concerned ports.
A press conference aiming at presenting the CUSTOM MED project objectives, partnership and expected results will also be held on 5 June at the Aqaba Mövenpick Hotel.
The CUSTOM MED total budget is €1,163,186 of which €1,046,867 as ENPI contribution (90%). It is coordinated by the University of Genoa - Transport Research Centre (Italy, Liguria). Other organisations from Lebanon, Spain, Greece and Jordan are involved in the project as partners.
The ‘ENPI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme 2007/2013’ is a multilateral cross-border cooperation programme co-financed by the EU under the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
