Visiting Fellowships programme: FEMISE offers economists funding for research visits

Researchers in the field of economy are invited to apply to the ‘Visiting Fellowships’ programme, launched by The EU-funded project FEMISE, which gives highly-qualified economists the opportunityto spend periods of research (of up to 6 months) in the European Union or in one of the partner countries with the aim of encouraging North and South Members’ Institutes to exchange knowledge and research experiences.

The aim of the Visiting Fellowship is to enhance the quality of the research being undertaken by FEMISE researchers. The types of visits that could be envisaged include:

· Collaboration with a co-researcher on a specific project funded by FEMISE.
· Visit to a specific research institute with expertise in the area of research being undertaken by the applicant.
· Participation in a well defined course or specialized lectures/seminars, of direct relevance to the research being undertaken.
· Delivery of training/course in a FEMISE member institution that is relevant to the research being undertaken by researchers at the partner institution.

Candidates will be selected on the basis of the quality of the proposal and the extent to which it meets the objectives of the scheme. The deadline for submitting applications is 28 February 2012.

Research projects and/or training programmes will be carried out in cooperation with academic hosts at research institutions in the EU or in the partner countries.  Candidates are thus expected to identify their own research projects and prepare their own research plan, in conjunction with their host in the EU or in the partner countries. Details of the research project and the time schedule must be agreed upon with the prospective host in advance.

FEMISE is a three-year EU-funded project with a budget of €4 million, which aims to contribute to the reinforcement of dialogue on economic and financial issues in the Euro-Mediterranean partnership, within the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy and the Union for the Mediterranean. More specifically, it seeks to improve understanding of the priority stakes in the economic and social spheres, and their repercussions on the Mediterranean partners in the framework of their implementation of EU Association Agreements and Action Plans.
