€5 million available for promoting peace and confidence building in the Middle-East

The European Commission has published a Call for Proposals under the EU Partnership for Peace Programme for an amount of €5 million (Reference EuropeAid/132454/L/ACT/Multi), aiming to support practical actions aiming at building mutual trust, building capacity for conflict resolution, launching joint development initiatives, and empowering marginalized groups.
The global objectiveof the Call is to help support the conditions for a negotiated solution and provide a solid foundation at civil society and intergovernmental level for a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, by strengthening and increasing direct civil society relationships and inter-agency/intergovernmental co-operation based on equality and reciprocity between communities affected by the conflict (Palestinians and Israelis, including the Arab minority in Israel, and neighbouring Arabs).
The specific objectiveis to strengthen civil society actions aimed at promoting peace and confidence building in order to broaden the base of support to a negotiated solution of the conflict. The programme intends to support practical actions aiming at building mutual trust, building capacity for conflict resolution, launching joint development initiatives, and empowering marginalized groups.
Under this Call, proposals must address at least one of the three priorities below:
· Cross community cooperation: Joint concrete actions for socio-economic development
· Peace building education, communication and confidence building
· Awareness raising of leaders and opinion-formers, public opinion and media through increased involvement of women in the peace and security sphere
All actions, regardless of the priority, must be implemented in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and/or Israel (within its internationally recognised borders) and/or Jordan. Specific activities, within the scope of the action and if duly justified, can be implemented also in EU Members States, Europe at large as well as in the ENPI South countries.
The deadline for application is 23 April 2012.
Information sessions for applicants to this call have taken place throughout the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including in Gaza City, iNablus, Ramallah ,Hebron and Jerusalem. More information sessions will take place in Tel Aviv on 28 February and Amman (date tbc) (ENPI Info Centre)
